How to Become a Leader

Half the battle is just showing up.  Young Life leaders win the battle when we show up consistently.  It is the desire not to give up, not to give in and to continually push forward no matter what obstacles we encounter.

One of our 2009 Lynnwood High School graduates, Katie Thurston, expressed just how important Young Life was during her high school years: "Young Life gave me a place to go. Young Life was the family I didn't have. It was the only time I was able to have fun without the peer pressure of high school. I could be me and feel loved. Without Young Life, high school would've been tough."

If you love God and have a heart to reach students, there is a place for you at Lynnwood Terrace Young Life and we want you!  Our heart is to reach EVERY kid.  Matthew 9:37-38 says, "Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Ideally, we would have at least 2 adult leaders (1 of each gender) for each grade, if not more. We have places to plug you in:

  • Middle School
  • High School
  • Fringe students
  • Teen moms
  • Students with disabilities
YoungLives
This is a revolving number for the amount of mentors needed.  It is dependent on how many teen moms become involved.  We try to have a one to one ratio.

We want to figure out ways to reach out to students who have dropped out of high school or who are in foster care.  Maybe you can be a pioneer in this area!
